Republic Day Celebrations

Republic Day is a national holiday in India.26 January was chosen as the date for Republic day because it was on this day in 1929 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime. To mark this occasion, a grand parade is held near Rajpath in New Delhi, the capital of India, beginning from Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort in the old quarter of the city. Different infantry, cavalry and mechanized regiments of the Indian Army, the Indian Marines and the Indian Air Force march in formation, decked in all their finery and official decorations. The President of India, who is also the Commander in Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, relishes the salute.

While the holiday is most notably celebrated with a huge parade in New Delhi, you can also take part in this exciting occasion by celebrating at home and preparing traditional Indian dishes. Come together with your friends and family to have a fun and memorable celebration of Republic Day!The dream of becoming an independent republic turned into reality on 26th January 1950 for India 68 years ago. Today our nation celebrates the Republic day with pride and dignity paying respect to the soldiers on this day who have laid down their lives for our cherished citizens to breathe with peace on our soil.

PM Rally

The Republic Day celebration is a three day extravaganza and post this celebration at India Gate, on the 27th January, a Prime Minister’s Rally is held by a crème of N.C.C cadets displaying various breath-taking performances and drill.

Lok Tarang

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in association with seven Zonal Cultural Centres organises “Lok Tarang, – National Folk Dance Festival” every year from 24th to 29th January. This festival provides a unique opportunity for people to witness colourful, vibrant and authentic folk dances drawn from various parts of the country.

Sing the national anthem to create a sense of patriotism:

Join everyone together to sing a verse of India’s national anthem. Don’t worry about your rendition being in tune, or singing along to music—instead, focus on singing together, and celebrating your joined cultural identity.

Hoist the Indian flag to pay tribute to the country:

Invite an older individual to lift India’s flag in acknowledgement and celebration of Republic Day. Use this small ceremony to teach younger children about the importance of the holiday. If you want, try to mirror the flag-raising portion from the beginning of the national parade.

Give gifts or tokens to young children in your home:

Set aside sweets, toys, and trinkets to give small children who don’t understand the meaning and gravity of Republic Day. While holidays like Diwali are more centered around gift-giving, you can still give out small gifts to make a child’s Republic Day extra special.
